Fat to Fit Camp for Obesity

Remember, what you put into your body either must be burned through metabolism or will be stored in those nasty old fat cells for later use. Of course later use never comes around because those frozen lattes are just too easy to come by. If you consume more calories, then you burn or it will be necessary to poke another hole for your belt buckle. Too many pizza slices coupled with no walking and elastic waist bands will not stretch enough to cover your butt and belly at the same time. A second or third slice of apple pie after dinner and soon you will not be able to remove your wedding ring without soapy water!

Finally, some sort of training schedule is definitely in order. Do not join an expensive gym if you too bashful to work out in front of strangers. However do find some method of burning calories. For some this would be walking the dog for an hour. For others it may consist of an hour with a Swiss ball on the living room floor. Possibly you have room in your house or garage to create a space you can do a workout with weights. Again, the point is that you NEED to have some way to burn those calories if you do not want to go that “husky” rack in the clothing store!

So eat less and eat better on a consistent basis. Develop a training system that will fit your lifestyle and keep with it. Then you just may have to find a way to control your ego as your belly shrinks and the compliments start pouring in.

Know Your Lungs Campaign

Your lungs are in your chest, and they are so large that they take up most of the space in there. You have two lungs, but they aren't the same size the way your eyes or nostrils are. Instead, the lung on the left side of your body is a bit smaller than the lung on the right. This extra space on the left leaves room for your heart.

Your lungs are protected by your rib cage, which is made up of 12 sets of ribs. These ribs are connected to your spine in your back and go around your lungs to keep them safe. Beneath the lungs is the diaphragm, a dome-shaped muscle that works with your lungs to allow you to inhale (breathe in) and exhale (breathe out) air.

You can't see your lungs, but it's easy to feel them in action: Put your hands on your chest and breathe in very deeply. You will feel your chest getting slightly bigger. Now breathe out the air, and feel your chest return to its regular size. You've just felt the power of your lungs!

Awareness was our main and foremost objective in our Know your Lungs campaign on 20th March’ 09 we focused on the following:

The patients were told and advised the following things:

  1. Did you know that there are over 4,000 chemicals in cigarette smoke? These include formaldehyde (used to preserve dead bodies), ammonia (used in strong cleaning liquids) and cadmium (a highly poisonous metal used in batteries). And if that isn’t reason enough for you to quit smoking, there are more.
  2. The most common perception is that smokers are at a high risk to develop cancer. But in reality, coronary heart disease and stroke are the primary types of cardiovascular disease caused by smoking.
  3. Quitting is hard. Smokers often say, "Don't tell me why to quit, tell me how." But then, there is no one right way to quit, though there are some key guidelines to help in quitting smoking successfully.
  4. Second-hand smoke contains more than 4000 chemicals. Many of these chemicals are known to cause cancer, and many of us breathe this in without much choice, in public places, around doorways of buildings and while at work.

To better understand the complications of the patients we provided the following for FREE:

Chest X-Ray P/A View
Lung FunctionTest
Chest Physician Consultation
(Only the registration fee was there).

Palm Beach Marathon

The first Palm Beach International Marathon became the biggest sporting event in the City of Navi Mumbai, 35 kilometers away from India’s financial capital Mumbai.

The 42.195 kilometer run along the picturesque boulevard—Palm Beach Road—placed the City of Navi Mumbai on the global canvas of sporting events. It was an event with a cause. This not-for-profit event supported the cause of prosthesis—helping rehabilitate those people who lost their legs.

Over 12,000 enthusiasts including top-ranked Indian and foreign marathon runners participated in the event.

We boosted the confidence of every runner and we also provided medical and emergency aid to every runner who failed just a few steps away from victory.

A wonderful experience.

Cardiac and Diabetic Health Check up Camp

Chances are that someone you know has been a victim of heart disease or high blood pressure, and the frightening part is that it is one of the top 3 causes of death in the country. In fact, my father died due to a sudden, massive heart attack. Diet plays a major role in the development (and treatment) of heart problems. There are several things we can do to improve heart health.
For example, did you know that eating more garlic (in raw or cooked forms) is associated with a lower incidence of heart disease, owing to its anti-oxidant properties? Onions also have a similar effect. Munching on small amounts ( 1 to 2 oz. ) of nuts such as peanuts, almonds, and walnuts is extremely beneficial for the heart. These are rich in fiber and mono-unsaturated fats (the good type).

In a nutshell, the following foods / factors can prevent heart disease: seafood (omega 3? fats) and olive oil. Nuts like walnuts, almonds (omega 3’s and magnesium). Fruits, vegetables. (Anti-oxidants). Grains, legumes. Garlic and onions.

As always, try and minimize stress and avoid smoking. Check your blood pressure and cholesterol levels regularly.
